concretus

The origin of the term concrete can be traced back to the 14th Century. Referring to that which has ‘grown together’, concrete is derived from the Latin word concrētus. Concrētus is the past participle of the Latin term concrēscere, which means ‘grow together’.

Brigit uses a custom concrete formula to create her fine sculptural pieces. The formula consists of a number of ingredients that augment the concrete’s inherent durability and strength.

Each sculpture is built, from concept to completion, by Birgit’s hands. The process begins with a steel armature over which the concrete is applied. After an essential curing period, surface accents and colour are added using high quality pigment, metal leaf, acid stain, artist-grade acrylic and a specialty UV protective clear coat. These materials are carefully selected to ensure maximum lightfastness with elemental exposure.
